Joshua Cain | Legal Support Services | Document Management Specialist
Josh Cain is a formerly incarcerated youth offender that was released in 2020 via clemency after serving nearly 22 years in Oregon prisons and jail, from the age of 18 to 40. He started working in Data Management later that same year and has been a part of OJRC's Legal Support Services department since its inception. While in prison, Josh worked to expand higher education opportunities and was among the first to acquire a BA from the University of Oregon while imprisoned. He also participated in club leadership, community fundraising, and the Inside-Out think tank at the Oregon State Penitentiary. Since his release, he has presented at numerous universities in Oregon and beyond, where his carceral experiences are able to inform his perspective about issues surrounding incarceration and post release. He is an advocate for criminal justice reform and believes in restorative justice over retribution. Josh feels that all people have value and cares deeply about accountability, fairness and equity in all situations.
