 Winning an injunction in Index Newspapers v. City of Portland that ordered Portland police and the Trump administration to stop targeting journalists reporting on the Portland protests.

Successfully defending that injunction on appeal in Index Newspapers v. U.S. Marshals Service, in which the court recognized for the first time that journalists have a right to observe and report on protests.

Winning an appeal against the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in Benitez v. Hutchens, allowing jail inmates to hold the county and the sheriff responsible for the conditions of their confinement.

Winning an appeal against the California prison system in McCoy v. Clark on behalf of an inmate whose foot infection prison staff ignored for so long he lost the use of both feet.

Before he entered private practice, Athul Acharya clerked on the Ninth Circuit and the District of Oregon. He attended law school at Duke University School of Law, where he was awarded the Order of the Coif and graduated magna cum laude.
