Melissa was born and raised in Portland and studied political science at Portland State University. In the years since graduating, Melissa has worked in both the adult and juvenile criminal defense systems. Aware of the devastating impact cycles of incarceration, often combined with generational poverty, have on individuals and communities, Melissa is committed to continuing to work on behalf of those affected. Melissa believes this work depends greatly on ending mass incarceration and advancing policies that prevent the future growth of incarcerated populations in the United States.
